An important note on Candida and sugar reduction

I know that many of us have heard that if Candida yeast overgrowth is suspected or confirmed, it is an absolute must that sugar be restricted, despite the great torture that this causes. Well, I would like to state that according to my experience – this is definitely not the right thing to do. Several times in my life I have been treated or treated myself for Candida overgrowth in the digestive tract. I got from all sides that once I started treatment that it was absolutely critical to stop all sugar and simply carb intake since I did not want to be feeding the buggies while trying to kill them. When I look back, I do not know why I thought this was logical especially since I had been feeding them the whole time anyway. Also the package inserts for the medications I used never said that one should change the diet at all during the treatment.

Hygiene: Using salt to clean the gums of your mouth

Many are aware of oil pulling and the reports about how it has helped many people.

I want to now introduce another method which I think is even more effective. I have done it and I definitely see a difference.

First make sure you have some time to yourself whether morning or evening. How much time depends on how much you need to do this. I did it for 30 min the first time.

Recipe: Salsa, Apple Date Bits, Nomi Shannon

In the past couple of days, I have made fresh salsa (tomatoes, lemon juice, chopped red onion, celery sliced thinly, garlic, cilantro, jalepeno and some type of yellow hot pepper – no idea what it is in English. We ate this with my homemade pinto bean cream and veggies and lettuce and chips. My husband did not even complain that there was no taco meat

Recipe: Raw Food Fun

If you don’t have the DVDs Raw for 30 Days and for Raw for Life, you really should get them!

Alex Ortner, the guy responsible for these films, graciously allowed me access to the bonuses that you get when you buy these DVDs. Hopefully tonight, I will be able to give you a review of these bonuses.

But right now, I want to share with you my raw food experiments from the last couple of days along with how I made them.

Nutrition: Raw for 30 Days and Raw for Life

Ok I am promoting the DVDs “Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days” and “Raw for Life”. I bought them both a few months ago and they were very impressive and moving. As some of you may already know, I have been dabbling in raw foods on and off for years but have really started getting into lately since having released a lot of negative energies that were keeping me addicted to foods that were making me sick.

School: I gave my first shot!

It has been _forever_ since I last posted. I have been very very busy with school, work, family, projects, individual study of various energy healing methods.

School of Natural Healing: Online Courses

If I weren’t already going to naturopath school here in Germany (where I can get the training I need to pass German state exams), I would be doing my training with the School of Natural Healing. They used to do everything by mail order correspondence but have made great progress in getting most of their classes online. This has reduced the costs and time needed to process lessons immensely.

If you want to consider taking one or several or all of these courses online, take a look at the School of Natural Healing website for the latest details and information.

H1N1 and other Vaccines: the Crock Overfloweth along with Gary Null’s Emotions

Wow, I tell ya. This Swine Flu thing is really getting on my nerves. Ignorance and greed know no bounds when it comes to blind faith in the medical machinery of the Western world. Gary Null, however, will set you straight if you weren’t before. If anyone can find valid peer-reviewed information that refutes his findings, please send it to me. I will give a large candy bar or a small container of superfood powder (of my choice since a friend of mine makes his own excellent mix) to anyone who can. In the meantime, take in and analyze what Gary has presented in the NYS Assembly Hearing on Vaccination on October 13, 2009:

H1N1 Swine flu Cover-up Controversy: a Crock of…

Busy bee that I am, I have been wanting to write my thoughts about why the H1N1 flu vaccine it is not only totally unnecessary but dangerous. There are just so many things that make no sense whatsoever with the information given out on this strain of the flu. I have notice great inconsistencies with the numbers published by the CDC and those published by the RKI in Germany. They are so much higher in the States. Why should they be higher in the States than in Germany? They should actually be higher in Germany I would think because more people smoke here and the country gets less Vitamin D from the sun. And then on Oct 21, 2009, CBS New published an article on the difficulty they had in getting straight answers out of the CDC on the actual numbers of those who had come down with H1N1. One of the results of their research was that most of the people who went to the hospital thinking they might have H1N1 actually not only didn’t have the Swine flu, they didn’t have the flu at all! Now why would the CDC not want to release this information? And also, why did they stop officially testing for H1N1 in _July_??? I smell a crock of …

HIV and AIDS: Perhaps a Crock of …, Perhaps Not?

I’ve decided to add a new category – the ‘Crock of’ category for things.

I recently stumbled onto the trailer for a movie called ‘House of Numbers’ that presents a very interesting point of view regarding HIV causing AIDS. I have not seen the movie because as far as I can tell it has not been released on DVD and can only be seen at film festivals or private showings or something. There has apparently be a bit of brouhaha about it because many people who have _not_ seen it automatically consider it a blasphemous movie stating that AIDS is not caused by HIV. Now I am not one to deny that AIDS is horrible. I used to live in San Francisco and helped take care of several friends with AIDS in the 90′s who ultimately died. This was a very sad chapter in my life.

Kids & Herbs: A Course Overview – Special Price till 21 Oct 2009

I just found out a couple days ago that the folks at LearningHerbs.com are offering their Kids & Herbs course for only $37 (normally it is &127). When you order the course, you also get their very cool herb-learning game called Wildcraft included. I have actually been wanting this game since last winter when I stumbled over the website back then – but I lost the link and forgot the name of the game – but luckily a friend found it again.

The Emotion Code Seminar: an Overview

Whether you are familiar with the Emotion Code or not, I highly recommend this seminar!

Last weekend I and a girlfriend from church who is an MD went to Dublin, Ireland for Dr. Brad’s Emotion Code seminar. We each paid $297 (around €200) the participation fee. The fee was well worth it and the whole experience far exceeded my expectations.

The only thing about the seminar that I would have changed is that he use fewer examples from the book and more new ones (he didn’t use all of those from the book, he used many not in the book but I’ve read the book and want to hear different ones :) ), but that is it.

A Plan for Preventing and Dealing with Pandemic H1N1 Flu

Sorry I haven’t posted lately – the past few weeks have been very very busy. But now I have a bit of a break from naturopath school and some other things and can finally post something useful.

Today’s post was actually a post on another forum written by a friend of mine who is a been studying alternative natural healing on her own for more than 20 years and whose husband is a naturopathic doctor. They have put much thought into how they would protect their family if a true virulent H1N1-type pandemic took place. She not only describes her preparations but also gives the recipes for the essential oil blends. She has given me permission to post her plans here. If you are interested, you can contact her at LLMIDWIFE (at) yahoo (dot) com about the availability of her kit containing the homeopathics, oils, and herbal formula that she has describes in the following.

Pathology: H1N1 and garlic

For most naturopathic doctors, herbs, vegetables and fruit should be the foundation of health – the source of most of the building blocks the body needs to stay or become healthy. H1N1 (swine flu) has become quite worrisome to many people. Mainstream media talks only of Tamiflu and the like or of hastily developed and untested vaccinations for everyone – needing up to 4 shots. For those of us who don’t think that injecting foreign proteins straight into our veins is a good idea, there are options for increasing our resistance to H1N1 and any flu if you look for them. One of those options that is easy, inexpensive and everywhere is garlic.

Pathology: Chronic gastritis

Tonight’s blog on what I’ve been learning in naturopath school is about chronic gastritis. First, we need to define ‘chronic.’ Officially, it is when all the symptoms of the disease over time total at least 3 months in a single year and then again the second year. Of course, doctors don’t wait a full two years before they label something as chronic but that is the official definition (at least in Germany).

There are 3 forms of chronic gastritis: A, B, and C

Type A gastritis = autoimmune gastritis (5% of cases)

Pathology: Obesity and H1N1

Today I was going to write about something else but I just got a link to a Bloomberg article, “Obese Exposed as Swine Flu Collides With Fat Epidemic” which very much caught my attention. I shall take a lot of info in the article, reformulate and add a few other things I’ve learned in other places or simply just figured out in my studies.

Pathology: Acute gastritis

Something that a naturopathic physician will be confronted with often are stomach troubles. Some are ongoing situations, others acute. Last week we learned about acute gastritis – a rather serious thing and potentially life-threatening. I hadn’t realized how bad things could get, since I personally have not had what I would call gastritis.

Basically, gastritis is inflammation of the mucous membranes of the stomach. It comes on quite suddenly and is usually caused by one or more of the following:

  • Overeating, drinking too much alcohol
  • Medications
  • Food poisoning
  • Stress
  • Trauma

Supplements: Resveratrol – many possible benefits

Resveratrol is a powerful antidioxant found in red grape skins, blueberries, bilberries, cranberries, Japanese knotweed (polygonum cuspidatum) and Chinese skullcap (scutellaria baicalensis) and raw peanuts that have been boiled, and other plants.

Although, there have been no absolutely conclusive tests that resveratrol is a silver bullet anything, it has become quite popular and there are indications that it could be helpful for the following areas:

Physiology: Why is pee yellow and poo brown?

Is there anyone who has never wondered? Even if you won’t admit it? ;) Actually the answers to this question are very important regardless of whether you are into allopathic or natural medicine. And we learned about this a couple of weeks ago in class :D . Here’s a relatively simplified version of what really happens – which is the amount of info I need for my tests in a couple years.

It all starts off in the blood stream – with old red blood cells. Once these cells reach around 120 days of age, they are broken down by enzymes in a process called haemolysis so their materials can be reused. This happens all over the body but mainly in the spleen. Besides iron, bilirubin is also released.

Energy healing: book review on ‘Life Energy’ by Dr. John Diamond

I’ve been reading the book ‘Life Energy: Using the Meridians to Unlock the Hidden Power of Your Emotions’ by Dr. John Diamond and written in the 1980′s. I’ve read other books (and will read more :) ) about EFT as well the ‘Emotion Code’ and ‘Quantum Touch’ which all work with the same energy fields but using different techniques. I decided though to go back a bit in history to some of the books that influenced the current ones. A doctor friend of mine who is also into alternative medicine has read several and recommended starting with ‘Life Energy.’

Herbology to the rescue: garlic oil for asthma

In March last year, my eldest son got something flu-like (pre-Vitamin D days) and we took him to the pediatrician who prescribed kiddie ibuprofen for achyness and fever. During the night, DJ got worse with real breathing troubles.  I took him back and the pediatrician now said he was having an asthma attack. What? Asthma? There is _no_ asthma in our family. Hmmm. The doc prescribed salbutamol and a nebulizer and that DJ would have to inhale every few hours everyday for the next couple weeks. So long??? Weird.

Alternative healing method: EFT – Tapping

Alternative healing covers a lot of area – physical, spiritual and emotional. Today I want to post about what happened just last night. My 5-yr son gets to stay up a little later until his little brother is asleep (this helps both go to sleep faster :D ). He was watching TV with Dad and they found the original version of the movie “War of the Worlds.” Now I first saw this by accident when I was 3. My parents went to an open air movie put on at the student dorms they were living at the time and of course I came too. I had nightmares from that movie for 10 yrs after that. Well, the two of them had already started watching by the time I emerged for a drink from the office and I was thinking ‘uh-oh.’ Low and behold right after the movie, DJ comes in really excited about the movie and starts giving me a blow-by-blow of the movie and jumping at any sound he hears outside of the window, constantly checking for spaceships coming.

Studying to become a naturopath!

Here it is! My first post on my new blogsite for alternative natural healing and becoming a naturopath! I would like to share my experiences and knowledge that I am gaining in naturopathy school as I learn about how to help the body heal using different modalities (without having to fall back on traditional allopathic medicine). One day, I hope to be far enough to get certified and actually open up a practice one day.
